"Supporting Independent Publishing in Eurasia" Program

The program "Supporting Independent Publishing Eurasia" is directed to these social groups in Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Moldavian and Caucasus Region countries communities, which are ready to overcome obstacle, barriers and animosity among various nations. It is addressed to these who are open to democracy, ready to fight with any attempts of the state to control free thoughts and speech. This program should serve organizations, which believe that freedom of speech means not only political freedom but it also creates opportunity to communicate with the others, who are on the other side of the state borders. Our program aims at promoting reconciliation and cooperation among various nations in Central and Eastern Europe. An useful tool for reaching these goals is technical knowledge allowing ideas to be transferred. Participants will acquire this knowledge within the framework of the program.

The program, conducted in Warsaw by the Polish-Czech-Slovak Solidarity Foundation and financed by the National Endowment for Democracy, will train 15 representatives from independent organizations located Belarus, Moldova, Russia, the Caucasus region, and Ukraine. Every two-week training course will be primarily devoted to mastering web page preparing skills. Its participants will return to their organizations fully capable of independently conducting internet activity. In addition, 5 of selected organizations will receive computer equipment.

The selection of organizations will be made by the Program Council on the basis of the main goal of the entire program as well as the initial conceptual and organizational preparations of a given group to join the flow of information and ideas that could be facilitated by the applied technology. The Program Council will also select organizations from among those participating in the program that will receive technical assistance in the form of computer hardware.

Beneficiary organizations will be selected by the Program Council made of:
- Roman Imielski - Chairman (editor, the daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza),
- Bogumi³a Berdychowska (Expert, The National Centre of Culture),
- Martyna Bogaczyk (Vicepresident, Education for Democracy Foundation),
- Zbigniew Janas (former MP, The Polish - Czech - Slovak Solidarity Foundation),
- Pawe³ Kowal (former MP, Political Expert).

The Program Council will take also a supervisory task over the program implementation
